If an internal pelvic floor assessment is being considered, it can still usually be performed while you are menstruating if you are comfortable. Your physiotherapist will first discuss your concerns, symptoms and treatment goals. If an internal examination may be clinically helpful, your physiotherapist will explain why and ask for your informed consent before proceeding.
You can decline or stop an internal examination at any time. External assessment and treatment options are also available.
